News

“News” is a fine art reproduction of a watercolor I made in my visual journal.

 That's me in the watercolor, with my cell phone in front of my eyes, reading the news. But it also represents so many other women who sometimes don't know how to cope with the constant stream of news arriving on their phones.
 .
 .
 My feeling of powerlessness in the face of global events beyond my control made me think about possible ways to actively participate in the world, even in events so distant.
 .
 I realized that, even though I can't fight for justice with my body, I can use my tools of expression—drawing, photography, video, painting, writing—to shed light on the changes that are necessary for us to live in a better world.
 .
 .
 I believe that this is how we contribute to the world: by not remaining silent in the face of injustice and by always having our critical thinking and compassion hand in hand. And we, too.
